I am very proud to introduce our all new and totally redesigned Functional Fakes Drum Cover.
Ever since the original introduction back in 1998 of our very innovative brake system, it has always been my goal to manufacturer high quality USA made parts and our new drum cover is no exception from our commitment.
The new Drum Cover, as always, is molded from virgin A356 aluminum through the Permanent Mold process.
During the redesign of the new cover, we took every opportunity to create the highest quality, highest detail and the most authentic looking drum cover possible. The shape and thickness of the fins is big and bold, giving the fins the heavy look just like the original Buicks. Made in Irwindale, California USA.
The original "Functional Fakes" brake system is designed to use with 1937-41 Ford original round flange spindles or any of the reproduction 37-41 style spindles with bolt on steering arms.
Note: There are several suppliers for this style of spindle. We highly recommend that you use USA made steering and suspension parts.
WE manufacture the six molded and cast pieces to our system (Drum Cover, Backing Plate, Air Scoop, Hub, Caliper Bracket and Cast Iron Rotor). All of our pieces are manufactured to the highest standards and quality by very reputable Southern California foundries. All USA made.
We buy our calipers and brake pads from Wilwood Engineering. Camarillo, CA. Our bearings and seals come from Timken USA. Our mounting hardware consist of grade 8 and high strength alloy fasteners where needed. Stainless steel safety wire where needed.
The Backing Plates are made from A356 aluminum by Permanent Mold and machined to accept the air scoops.
The Hubs are molded from A356 aluminum and heat treated to
T6 condition. The hubs ship with
bearings and seals installed, greased and ready to install on your spindles, you must also use your own spindle nuts and washers.
We manufacture our Rotors from premium grey iron. We anneal our rotors to relieve stress and ensure stability.
The Air Scoops are sand cast from A356 and have the mounting studs cast into the scoops for easy installation.
We machine our Caliper Brackets from USA made 6061T6 aluminum plate.
Our system is designed to install easily and comes with clear instructions.

Front Flex Brake Lines
Our front flex lines are manufactured for us by Bonaco Inc. in Upland, California USA and are made from D.O.T. approved fittings and braided stainless steel coated hose to our specifications.

Drum Covers
The rear drum covers are identical in appearance to the front drum covers and are intended to cover the OEM rear brake drum. The drum covers are machined pattern specific and use the existing wheel studs for mounting. Contact us with questions and pattern information.

MISCONCEPTIONS
There are a few
misconceptions about our brake system that I feel are important to clear up
once and for all.
First,
Functional Fakes is not a Wilwood
Disk Brake Kit. We buy Wilwood
calipers and brake pads only.
We feel Wilwood calipers are the best in the industry and the most
suitable for our application. We
manufacturer all of the other components for our brake system right here in the
USA.
Second,
our Functional Fakes were copied a few years ago by a couple of individuals who
wish to remain anonymous. Their
off-shore copies have created a lot of confusion for the consumer due to the
fact that the copies are distributed exclusively thru So-Cal Speed Shops who
used to distribute our brakes exclusively up to the time we discovered we were
being copied. (read "About Us").
Third,
when you buy our quality American made product you help keep American workers
employed vs. when you buy their off-shore copies you help keep Asian workers
employed.

WHY WOULD YOU SETTLE FOR LESS.
We are the Innovators not the Imitators.
We widened the drum cover to cover more of the backing plate for a cleaner look.
The new cover is much thicker which reduces the gap between the cover and the backing plate. We made the fins big and bold just like the original Buicks.
This cut-away shows our cover on the left and the So-Cal exclusive on the right. Our drum cover is all about strength and design and look at the deep detail off the fins on the face of our drum cover compared to their shallow die cast cover.
